I have found this class very enriching for an all-inclusive perspective, which I truly appreciate especially given how sheltered and isolated SLO can seem compared to highly dense urban areas, where I'm from. Especially also being in a design major that stereotypically tend to have more gay men, who like many women, receive backlash from the patriarchal society that dominates our lives. I have found myself excited to come into studio every day and discuss (as we are designing) the many forms of complex social injustices that occur in the world and is highlighted, and often exaggerated, by social media. One friend in particular has been extremely supportive of everything I've been telling him about the class and made a point to post about how "excited [he is] to share with everyone a small fragment of combining the potential of [his] major with contemporary issues that we as designers should be solving instead of being scrutinized for not choosing the correct quercus species for our site."
Thank you for all of your support and I hope this is an issue we as designers can start taking more seriously.
